Winter So Long

A winter so long,Trails so narrow,Our steps so close apart,Simply set beat to a waddle. ResemblingA land so far south,Canada goose jacketsTotter across the streets. We mutter,Bitterly.Fuming,Through our zipped coats. A Madison winterIs like no other. The lakes glazed with ice,The slush lingering on the ground,And the trees along the streetsAre a treat for the sight. You eitherCross the street,Lose yourselfIn your own rush,Keeping the cold off your mind. OrYou wait. You let the bitter airSeep in throughEverySeam. And it is like so,Withering of our breaths isA winter so long.
